Brent Darnell on the emotional intelligence that earns respect without losing control, and makes you easier to work with and easier to live with.
Most field leaders got promoted because they were great at the work. Nobody trained them for the part that’s now most of the job: communicating, handling conflict and keeping good people. The same skills decide how it goes at home.
Brent Darnell has spent more than 25 years teaching people skills to construction professionals. He’ll show your leaders why the best superintendents aren’t the ones with the most know-how. They’re the ones people want to work for.

Brent Darnell is a pioneer in bringing emotional intelligence to the construction industry. A third-generation builder with a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech, he spent 18 years managing projects, including Brooke Army Medical Center and athlete housing for the Atlanta Olympic Village, before he began teaching people skills to construction professionals in 1999.
Engineering News-Record named him one of its Top 25 Newsmakers for transforming “alpha males into service-focused leaders.” He has trained people at about 100 companies in 20 countries, teaches at Auburn, Penn State and Virginia Tech, and wrote The People-Profit Connection and the Tough Guy book series.
